Creating an Account

You can apply for access to the site by completing the registration form on the Photocenter homepage, under “Register”. If you are an agency, check the “Agency” box and complete the fields relating to your project and your contact details. The Photocenter team will confirm your account as soon as possible.

Authenticated access

To access all of the features available on the site, you need to enter your login (your e-mail address) and your password before clicking “OK”. If you do not have an account, you can apply for one using the registration form on the homepage, under “Register”.

Forgotten password

If you forget your password, click on “Forgotten Password?” on the homepage then enter your e-mail address. You will then receive an e-mail containing a link which will allow you to change your password.

This page contains the latest online photo reports uploaded to the Photocenter. For each report, the relevant thumbnail of the report appears alongside its title. To view and access all of the images in the report, click on the thumbnail.

Back to TopCorporate, BUs, BUs globales

This feature allows you to access images according to the activity represented. If you move your mouse over the one of this tabs, a drop-down menu appears containing the 1st level activities. Click on a title to see the contents of the folder.

You will then have the option to select from the secondary levels of the chosen activity, by clicking on a thumbnail or by selecting it from the drop-down list which will appear when you click on the grey title bar.

By clicking on a thumbnail on the central page, you can access all of the images in the category at the selected level.

This feature allows you to access various selections of images suggested by the Photocenter team: images used in Group publications, selections of images on general Group or topical themes.

After clicking on this tab, a list of suggested selections appears. Then click on a thumbnail to see the sub-folders or the contents of the selection.

In the box located to the right of your page, you will find a few of the selections highlighted by the Photocenter team, which you will also find under “Highlights”.

To view the contents of one of these selections, simply click on the chosen thumbnail to see all the images in the folder.

Using the Quick Search box

The section at the top of the screen enables you to conduct a simple search at any time.

There are several parts to this section:

  • An input field to set up a full-text search, in which you can choose from a list of words formulated from the three letters previously entered,
  • A drop-down menu to refine your search using search options,
  • A button to run the search (“Magnifying glass”).

The search engine is capable of conducting a “full-text” search, meaning that the term or words you enter in the search field will be cross-referenced against all the descriptors (title, caption, keywords, country, location, etc.) in documents with full-text indexing.

How to set up a search

You can search for one or more words using the following operators: AND (+ key), OR (| key), EXCEPT (- key).

The default operator between entered words is AND. For example: woman work = woman AND work.

Always remember to enter a space between the operators and the search words, otherwise the string will be considered a complete term. For example: “woman + work” and not “woman+work”.

Note: the system is capable of interpreting plural as singular and does not take either upper/lower case characters or accented characters into consideration.

For example: “NUCLEAR POWER PLANT” is the same as “nuclear power plant” The results of a search on the word “cars” are identical to those of a search on the word “car”.

Truncations

You can search for the beginning of a word (minimum 3 characters) by using the wildcard characters * or % (equivalent to “begins with”).

For example, the results of a search on sport* (or sport%) will contain documents referenced with the words sport, sportive, sportswear, sportsman, etc. A search on ca*t (or ca%t) will contain documents referenced with the words cat, capital, calibrate, etc.

New: Search Options

In the drop-down menu that appears when you click in the simple search field, you can select options to refine your search:

  • Photographs without events: By checking this box, you choose not to display “event” photos (such as openings, ceremonies, meetings, etc). This enables you to display only those photos relating to activities, background, illustrations or portraits.
  • Downloadable HD content: By checking this box, you choose to display only those photos available in high resolution, for which no third-party agreement is required. Please note that there may still be certain publication constraints, such as for internal publication only or within a specific context. Therefore, you must always consult the detailed information on potential uses and rights (publication constraints & Rights Information). If you are the sponsor of an image, you can access all your high-resolution images for publication by selecting this option (except archived images).
  • Complete rights: By checking this box, you will exclude from the search results any images for which the authorization of a person, site, architect, etc. is missing. But beware, you will still have to consult the details regarding potential uses and rights (Rights Information).

Advanced Search

In the advanced mode, you can conduct a more precise and targeted search using suggested criteria.

  • Full text: You can enter a word and search over a given period of time (by creation date).
  • Fields: Choose the descriptor in the proposed list (Creation Date, Title, Reference, Keywords, Photo Credit, etc.) then select the operator which is most appropriate for your query from those available. Then enter the value you want to search for via the selected descriptor.

The available operators are: Is equal to, begins with and contains. “Contains” only works in fields with full-text indexing, such as a title, caption, keywords, etc.

NB: the wildcard character enabling the truncation of words does not work in advanced search.

Available formats

  • Slide show
  • Mosaic (this is the default display mode)
  • Mini Mosaic

To go from one page to another in a batch of results, click on the arrows to view the next page or the previous page or enter the number of the page you wish to view. You can also change the number of results displayed per page by changing the relevant field.

New: Top download

You may be able to see a “top download” icon on some images. This icon is on the thumbnail of the image within a page of results and shows you which photos are the most popular downloads.

Accessing information about the photo

To access information about the photo, simply click on the thumbnail or on the “Open the asset” view zoom icon below each thumbnail. The metadata for the document appears, giving information about the image: date, title, caption, credits, keywords, publication constraints, rights information, end-date of copyright duration, etc.

Mini thumbnails at the bottom of the sheet give you a quick view of all the images in a report. Moving the mouse over one of the images will enlarge it. Clicking on it will display the information sheet for the selected image.

The information sheet also enables you to run a search on one of the terms in the keywords or locations sections. The new search is run by clicking on one of the words.

If you want to comment on an image or on the information included in the sheet, or if you have any questions relating to the image displayed, simply click on the link at the bottom of the information sheet for that image (please contact us if you have noticed an error or wish to give us further details, for instance). This will open your usual e-mail account and you can then send a message to the Photocenter team, who will respond as soon as possible.

History

This feature enables you to display the history of your quick searches for the current session only and to re-run a search if you need to.

New: Explore funds

This feature enables you to conduct a geographical search of the photo collection. By selecting a continent and then a country, you can access the full range of images relating to that country, by the location of the shot or theme.

New: Refine Search

Once you have run a simple search and your results are displayed on the central page, you can refine the results from the left-hand box:

Period: You can choose to display only those images which relate to the current year or the previous year.

Orientation: You can choose the orientation of your images: Portrait to display only vertical images, or Landscape to display only horizontal images.

Country: You can also refine your search by country, by selecting from the available list of different countries represented in the photos in your search results.

Copyright duration: If you want long-term use of the image, you can decide to display only those images for which the rights of use have been acquired for at least 1 year, meaning that the expiration date for these rights is in more than one year’s time.

People on photo: If you only want photos with (or without) people in them, you can check one or other of the boxes to exclude from the search results any images which have (or do not have) people in them.

Keywords: When you conduct a search, the system automatically displays relevant keywords appearing in the full range of your search results (limited to the first 100 words). You simply need to click on one of these terms to refine your search results.

Depending on your access rights, you can download an image from:

  • The Mosaic, mini mosaic or results list (using the “Download the asset” arrow icon below each thumbnail)
  • The information sheet (using the “Download” button on the navigation bar)
  • Your current basket (using the “Download the asset” arrow icon below each thumbnail)

All options will remind you of the format and size of files available to you.

To download, simply click on the “Download” button then choose a download location on your computer.

You can view your download history in “My Account/Download”.

If an image is not available in high resolution, you can submit a request from your basket. See “Requesting a high-resolution photo” below.

Back to TopCreating and saving a basket

You can make and save selections of images from the contents of your current basket. These selections may be downloaded later, or temporarily saved as a basket. During any session, you can access a temporary basket (New basket), and the list of your saved baskets.

Creating a basket

To create or add to a basket, click on the “Add the photo to the current basket” icon below each thumbnail of a photo or on the information sheet or even via the “My Account/Baskets”

Adding a photo to a basket

To add a document to an existing basket, begin by loading the basket you want to add to by clicking on its name from the drop-down menu in the current basket. Run your various searches and then click the “Add the photo to the current basket” icon below the thumbnails you want to add. The system automatically saves the updates to your basket.

To add the entire contents of an existing basket to your current basket, simply click on the Basket icon “Add basket to the current basket”.

Note: If you add the same document to your current basket several times, it will only be registered once.

Removing a document from a basket or emptying the basket

To remove an image from a basket, simply load the basket to be changed by clicking on its name from the drop-down menu in the current basket, then click on the Cross icon (“Remove”) below each thumbnail in the basket. The system automatically saves the updates to your basket.

If you want to empty your current basket or a saved basket, simply click on the “Empty” button in the options bar.

Saving a basket

Baskets are saved automatically. Additions or removals of documents are saved immediately.

If you want to save a basket, simply click on the “Save” button in the options bar of your current basket and enter a name for the basket.

The temporary basket (New basket) will then be emptied.

Returning to a saved basket

To go back to a selection of photos you have previously saved, click on the “My Account/Baskets” button. A list of your saved baskets appears.

To view the contents of a basket in mosaic mode, click on the thumbnail or on the “Open basket” button below the thumbnail relating to your basket.

Displaying a basket

To display the contents of your basket on the main page, simply click the “Display in mosaic” link in the options bar of your current basket. You can also display it by going to “My Account/Baskets” and clicking on the thumbnail of the basket you want to display.

Downloading the contents of a basket

To download the contents of your current basket or of a previously saved basket, first check that the basket contains all of the documents you selected. Depending on your access rights, you can download the contents of your current basket directly from the basket itself. A basket can only be downloaded by creating a zip file containing the various documents.

Ensure in advance that your device is equipped with the necessary software for processing zip files and retrieving the photo files. Then, once your basket is ready, click on the “Download” button at the top in the options bar of your current basket. A confirmation page appears listing the various documents. For each document, choose the format you wish to download, if your rights allow you to do so.

By default, the images will be offered to you in high resolution. You can change this format for this download by selecting the lower resolution format in the drop-down menu. If you want to apply this format to all of the photos being downloaded, click the “Apply to all” button.

You should, however, be aware that some photos are only available in a low resolution format. This means that you must seek the authorization of the photo report’s sponsor before using the photo. To submit your request, simply click on the “Request the pictures with restricted use” link located in the options bar of your current basket. (See “Requesting a high-resolution photo”).

For each format, there will be a reminder of the resolution, height and width of the image. Click on the “Download” button to start the download.

When the dialog box opens, follow the instructions: select “Save” then choose the name and location of the zip file you will create, then start the download.

You can view your most recent downloads in “My Account/Download”.

New: Sending a basket

Depending on your access rights, you may be able to e-mail the contents of a basket to a contact of your choice. Simply click on the “Send” button in the options bar of your current basket. Then enter the recipient’s e-mail address, together with the subject line and the body of the message, then select the format in which you wish to send the images (low or high resolution, depending on your rights). Then click on the “Send” button to send the message.

Deleting a basket

To delete a basket, simply load the basket to be deleted by clicking on its name from the drop-down menu in the current basket, then click on the Cross icon (“Remove”) in the options bar of your current basket. You can also delete the basket from the “My Account/Baskets” menu by clicking on the Cross icon (“Remove”) below the thumbnail of the basket.

A confirmation message appears enabling you to confirm or cancel the deletion of the basket (this cannot be reversed).

Back to TopRequesting a high-resolution photo

If a high-resolution image cannot be downloaded directly, you must submit an online request on the Photocenter website.

To do this, add the image or images to your basket, then click on the link “Request the pictures with restricted use”.

Complete the form, giving details of your planned use of the image (Project Name, Media, Duration of use, etc.) then, for each image, select the use and distribution from the drop-down menu to the right of each thumbnail.

Clicking on the next page will bring you to the page containing your details, which you can amend if they have changed. You can also choose to overwrite incorrect information in your profile by checking the box “Update the user account”. Your e-mail address is the only information which cannot be changed. For further information on this point, please use the contact form to contact the Photocenter.

Once you have confirmed your request on the “Your request of pictures in high resolution” page, click the “Send my request” button to finalize your request.

An e-mail will be sent to you as soon as your request has been processed. This message will tell you whether your request has been approved or rejected. If it has been approved, you can download the image from “Requests” in “My Account”.

You can track your requests at any time under “Requests” in “My Account”.

To re-use images previously downloaded, you must renew your request via the Photocenter website.

Back to TopMessages

To review messages you have received, click on the “My Account/Messages” button.

The site administrator can use this inbox to send you a selection of images.

When you connect to the server, you are notified of the number of unread messages in your inbox. Click on “X new message(s)” to go directly to your inbox.

The list of messages will then appear. To read a selected message, simply click on the message line. The message then appears, together with any attachments (the appearance of the envelope icon changes to distinguish between read and unread messages).

To delete a message, click on the Cross icon (“Delete the message”) to the right on the message line.

Recent messages are displayed in chronological order (the date sent is displayed). Unread messages are automatically highlighted.

Message details and attachments

Details and images of the documents appear at the bottom of the message. A reminder of the title and reference number of each document is given, as well as basic information about the image. To view the information about an image, click on the thumbnail.

An icon to the right of each document allows you to download that document (in the format in which it was sent).

If several images are attached to a message, you can download them all simultaneously by clicking the “Download all” button.

Back to TopNew: Profile

To view or change your profile, go to “My Account/Profile”. You will be able to review and update your details.

Your login is your e-mail address, so if you change your e-mail address, you will need to set up a new Photocenter account using your new e-mail address. If this is the case, please notify the Photocenter team as soon as possible, so that your old account can be deactivated.
